What hardscapes really comes down to
A paver patio, a stone walkway, a retaining wall that holds back a slope — these are the pieces that turn a yard into space you actually use. Done right, they stay flat, tight and true for decades. Done fast and cheap, they heave, settle and pull apart in a few winters.
The difference is almost entirely in what you cannot see: the base. We excavate to the proper depth, build up a compacted gravel base, screed a bedding layer, and lock everything in with edge restraint and joint sand. That is the part that lasts, and it is the part we never shortcut.

How it works
A straightforward path, start to finish

Design & layout
We stake out the footprint, pick the material and pattern with you, and confirm how it drains away from the house.

Excavate & base
We dig to the right depth and build a compacted gravel base in lifts — the foundation that keeps it from moving.
- 03
Screed & set
A screeded bedding layer goes down, then pavers or stone are set tight, cut clean at the edges, and leveled.
- 04
Lock it in
Edge restraint and polymeric joint sand lock the field together so the surface stays tight and weed-free.

- Why do some paver patios sink and others do not?
- It is the base. A patio set on a properly excavated, compacted gravel base with edge restraint stays put; one laid on loose dirt or thin sand will settle and shift. The base is where we spend the time.
- Do I need a permit for a retaining wall?
- Taller walls — generally over about four feet — often need engineering or a permit, and we handle that. Lower walls usually do not. We will tell you which category yours falls into up front.
- Pavers or poured concrete?
- Pavers flex with our freeze-thaw ground instead of cracking, individual units can be lifted and reset if needed, and there is far more design range. We are happy to walk through the trade-offs for your project.
- How long will a paver patio last?
- Decades, when the base is built right. Pavers themselves are extremely durable, and a re-sand every few years is about all the upkeep a well-built patio needs.
